1. Homework is assigned almost every class and checked for completion at the beginning of class on the next
school day.
2. You may receive from 0 – 100 (grade value at my discretion).
3. To receive a full 100 for your homework, it must:
a. be attached in your binder;
b. have your name and the assignment written at the top of the page;
c. have every problem copied and at least tried, with all work shown.
Make-up Work Policy
(This information is also stated in the Parent/Student Handbook on pages 3 and 4)
SHORT ABSENCES (1 or 2 days):
1. It is your responsibility to check my blog site (http://cardinalblogs.cnhs.org/susanhenry) before
returning to school and to complete all of the work that has been assigned during your absence. All
textbook assignments will be expected to be completed and handed in on the day of your return to
class.
2. If you are absent on the day of a pre-assigned test, you will be expected to take the test (or give the project presentation) on the day of your return and should be prepared to do so.
3. In the case of tests, quizzes, or worksheets that were assigned while you were absent you are
expected to meet with me on the day of return at the end of class to make arrangements to take the
missing quiz, test, or complete the missing worksheet. This work will then be expected to be
completed before the next class day.
EXTENDED ABSENCES (more than 2 days):
You should make an appointment with the counseling office on the morning of your return to school
in order to develop a schedule for make-up tests and projects. After this schedule is set, I will let you
know the time and the location of the make-up test. A grade of zero (0) will be placed on
NetClassroom until the work is made up.
Evaluation and Grading
1. HOMEWORK (See Homework Policy on page 1) ACCOUNTS FOR 15% OF YOUR QUARTERLY GRADE.
2. QUIZZES ACCOUNT FOR 30% OF YOUR QUARTERLY GRADE: Pre-announced or pop quizzes will
be given occasionally to determine your understanding of new material.
3. TESTS ACCOUNT FOR 55% OF YOUR QUARTERLY GRADE:
a. There will usually be 3 or 4 tests per quarter. Tests are usually given at the end of several sections
and/or the end of a chapter.
b. Tests will always be pre-announced.
c. Tests must be completed during class time.
Classroom Rules
1. LEAVING THE CLASSROOM:
a. Because class time is very valuable, students should not ask to leave for any reason, such as to get
a drink, get forgotten materials, use the phone, etc.. These matters must be taken care of before
school or between classes. So do not interrupt class to make these requests.
b. Since we have 5 minutes between classes, restrooms should be used during those breaks.
Therefore, restroom breaks during class will only be used in case of a grave emergency.
2. COMPORTMENT DURING QUIZZES AND TESTS:
a. There will be no talking to me or a fellow classmate once a test or a quiz has been passed out.
b. No items are to be on student desks except the copy of the test, scratch paper (if necessary), writing
utensils, and any other required material requested by me. All other books must be neatly tucked
under desks.
c. You may not borrow any items during quizzes or tests. You must be fully prepared at all times.
d. I will not answer any questions during a quiz or a test. You will have ample opportunities for
questions during class and extra help sessions. (Exceptions: If you feel there is a mistake on the test,
if you are missing a page, or if you cannot read something due to poor reproduction)
e. Your eyes must be kept on your own paper.
f. When you finish a test, take the time to check over your work. Turn papers over unless otherwise
told, and wait patiently until all tests have been collected.
3. COMPORTMENT DURING CLASS:
a. You must remain in your seats, until instructed to do otherwise. Sharpening of pencils, throwing
away trash, getting a tissue, etc. must be done before or after class. If a special need arises during
class, you must raise your hand, as long as it is not interrupting the lesson.
b. Only school-approved water bottles are allowed and must be kept closed and not on desk tops. They should be kept under desks or bookbags.
c. Please raise your hand when you have a question or would like to participate.
d. Since we are in class to learn, it is essential that you pay full attention at all times. When talking
during group work, voice levels must be moderate.
e. If you feel that there is an error on the correction of a test or quiz, please make a note on the paper
and come and see me after class.
f. Any questions that do not pertain to geometry must be done before or after class. So please do not
interrupt class with unnecessary questions, such as, “How much time do we have left in class?”
g. Please sit in the appropriate position in chairs at all times.
h. No other subject may be read or worked on during class. If so, books and/or notebooks will be taken
away at my discretion with no discussion.
i. For safety reasons, please keep book bags, books, or purses completely under desks, or in the back of
the room
j. Do not write on desks and do not sit on desks.
k. Out of respect for visitors, other faculty and staff, please stand and greet them when they are entering
our classroom.
l. Be aware of all school rules which will be strictly observed in my classroom. For example, no food or
non-water drinks are allowed, and cell phones will be confiscated with no discussion.
m. All other school regulations must be followed as stated in the handbook and will be enforced.
Extra Help
If you need extra help, please ask. Extra help schedule is usually available during Skinny 1 on Red Days and after school on Black Days. As soon as you are having any difficulty understanding the material, please make arrangements to come to see me. Do not wait until the day before a major test to learn two weeks worth of material. Please take advantage of this extra help whenever necessary. I am here to help you. Please advise me when you are planning to come. If you want to come for extra help during Skinnny I, all 9th and 10th graders must make arrangements the day before coming for extra help during Skinny I. Occasionally there may be a parental conference or a meeting after school and I may not be available after school. There will be a sign-in sheet. It will be your responsibility to sign in and out.
General Recommendations for Success in this Class
1. Do not make careless errors. Pay close attention to the work you are doing.
2. Read all directions carefully, and answer accordingly.
3. Show work on every problem that requires work or steps.
4. On tests and quizzes, do not spend too much time on any particular problem, especially if you are having
difficulty with it. Skip it and come back to it later. Work first the problems with which you feel more
comfortable.
5. Check over your work on tests and quizzes after you finish. Do not be in a rush to hand in.
6. Pay attention 100% in class--to new material, to homework problems, to review material, etc. Watch and
listen to learn how to do and show the work.
7. Always do all your homework. This will help you to see if you can do the material you learned in class on
your own. If you have trouble with your homework, ask questions the next day--either in class or after
school.
8. Work diligently when assigned to group work. Be an active participant at all times.
9. Seek extra help as soon as you are having troubles with the material. I am always very happy to help
students who show an interest and effort in learning.
Conclusion
Please place this handout in your binder so that you may refer to it during the year. Go over this with your parents/guardians, and also show your parents/guardians your binder, including your quizzes and tests to let them know how you are progressing through the year. Also, check your grades on NetClassroom, and be aware of all assignments/quizzes/tests, as well as any special announcements, on http://cardinalblogs.cnhs.org/susanhenry.
